for 2001 School Board Candidates

1. What is your opinion about the stance the Boy Scouts have taken?

2. Given the Boy Scout stance, which of the following measures would you support

and why?

a.) keep things the way they are because the Boy Scouts provide services for

young children that are irreplaceable;

b.) Allow Boy Scouts to come into our schools provided they sign an

agreement stating they support our anti-discrimination policy (which

includes sexual orientation);

c.) Prohibit the Boy Scouts from chartering groups in our Public School

System until the national organization changes their policy.

3. What do you know about the Out for Good/Out for Equity Program and why would

you offer your support for it?

4. Given the fact that homophobic harassment such as STAG and Not So Gay are

among the most common forms of harassment in American schools, explain why

you would support or not support the following interventions:

a.) staff development;

b.) classroom presentations;

c.) school wide promotional campaigns

5. How do you think these interventions would improve climate in general and

show care and respect for all different kinds of students?

6. Some public entities provide domestic partner benefits to their employees.

Explain why you wou1d support or oppose providing such benefits.

7. (Follow-up) Assuming that a mechanism for defining "domestic partner" has

been established, describe which of the following best describes your position:

a.) I would support partner benefits only if the union raises this issue in

negotiations;

b.) I would support partner benefits only if the costs are minimal;

c.) I would support partner benefits without conditions.

8. How would you support GLBT parents?

9. Do you support in-school clinics, including providing contreception &

safer-sex information & supplies in these clinics?

10. Do you support preserving/including age-appropriate materials about GLBT

people in school libraries?

11. If you are not endorsed, will you run against a DFL-endorsed candidate?
