Question 6: Tell us why you would make the best Governor for the State of Minnesota. What kind of "team" would you put together if elected? Also, what is the worst idea you have heard one of your opponents in this race support, and why? In your rebuttal include a response to this question: If you face an endorsement or primary challenge, why would you be the best candidate for your party? In closing, please include information on how interested readers can contact your campaign to volunteer and get more information. MONDALE Response 6: I would make the best governor for the state of Minnesota because I have the values, the vision and the independence to move the state forward into the next century. Minnesota needs strong leadership that is willing to do what it takes to get the job done, and be held accountable to our citizens. My offer to the people of Minnesota is that in the year 2003: more children will enter school ready to learn, our schools will better prepare our children for tomorrow's workplace, every student will have a chance to earn scholarships for higher education, and our communities will be safer places to raise a family. I will expect to be held accountable for this offer. My record in the legislature is proof that I am not afraid to take on challenges, and that I know how to bring people together, create consensus, and eventually to get the job done. As governor, my constant focus will be on children and families, and I will look at each proposal in light of how it will help families and whether or not it is the right thing to do. I also recognize the importance of not handing our children a bad check, and will always work to fund my proposals within the existing budget, not by raising taxes. The team I will put together will be a new generation of women and men committed to public service, committed to innovation, and not committed to the old ways of bureaucracy and "can't do that" attitude. What is the worst idea I have seen thus far in this campaign? I believe the feedlot moratorium proposed by several of my opponents was short-sighted, and could have had a long-term negative affect on our economy. Ted Mondale Questions@tedmondale.org
