Question 6: Tell us why you would make the best Governor for the State of Minnesota. What kind of "team" would you put together if elected? Also, what is the worst idea you have heard one of your opponents in this race support, and why? In your rebuttal include a response to this question: If you face an endorsement or primary challenge, why would you be the best candidate for your party? In closing, please include information on how interested readers can contact your campaign to volunteer and get more information. MARTY Response 6: Minnesota deserves a governor with a vision for a better future: . A vision for a strong economy that doesn't leave people behind-where seniors can afford their prescriptions and working people can afford housing, healthcare and childcare. A vision for the future, with investments to prevent crime, pollution, and welfare dependency. Investments in prevention that save tax dollars. . A vision for a government that says no to special interests, and puts a priority on kids and schools, not subsidies for wealthy athletes. I have that vision, and the leadership needed to implement it. My record in the Senate has been focused on that vision. My record is consistent: . taking on pork barrel spending and government waste -- from stadiums to tax increment financing. . investing in people -- from early childhood education and intervention for at-risk kids, to welfare-to-work efforts. . fighting special interest money, so voices of ordinary people are heard, not just those who can afford to bankroll lobbyists and make large contributions. As governor, I will implement plans that straighten out government priorities and make progress towards that vision. I will proactively prevent problems up-front, rather than reacting crisis to crisis. My "team" will be diverse, reflective of all parts of our state. Not capitol insiders and "yes" people. I select people for their ideas and talents, not their political connections. Finally, Minnesota deserves a leader who embodies the people's values: I don't just talk about problems from special interest money. I author tough legislation to attack it. And, my campaign rejects special interest money. I don't just talk about government waste. I lead the fight against waste at the transit system, at the legislature, in taxpayer subsidies for business. I walk the talk. John Marty
