In your rebuttal include a response to this question: If you face an endorsement or primary challenge, why would you be the best candidate for your party? In closing, please include information on how interested readers can contact your campaign to volunteer and get more information. FREEMAN Response 6: 1. Tell us why you would make the best Governor for the State of Minnesota? I believe in Minnesota's commitment to hard work, public education, equal opportunity, and preserving the environment. As Governor, I will ensure Minnesota remains the best state in which to raise a family, secure a decent job, and enjoy a high quality of life. Minnesota has an opportunity to set priorities for the next decade by using its $1.6 billion budget surplus wisely. We should use a major portion of the surplus to improve public education. I support a universally available, all-day kindergarten and one-year of post-secondary education for all Minnesota high school graduates. I support limiting class sizes to twenty or fewer students, for grades K-3. I oppose providing public monies for private schools. We must consider other pressing needs, and ensure the budget is balanced in the future by increasing the rainy day fund. The remaining surplus must be used to provide permanent property tax cuts for homeowners and similar relief to renters. I have the education and experience to implement these priorities. Following graduation from Rutgers, and two years in the Army, I graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. After clerking for federal judges Early Larson and Gerald Heaney, I entered private practice. In 1982 and 1986, I was elected to the Minnesota Senate, and served as Assistant Majority Whip. I was elected Hennepin County Attorney in 1990 and 1994. 2. What kind of team would you put together if elected? I will appoint well-qualified men and women to all positions, representing a broad cross-section of our State. 3. Also, what is the worst idea you have heard one of your opponents in this race support, and why? Norm Coleman's scheme to use public money to support private schools.
