Hubert H. Humphrey III Response 1
Question 1: What must the governor do, if anything, to head off or prepare for a possible computer systems distruption as a result of the Year 2000 compter bug?
The Humphrey/Moe Administration will provide the leadership necessary to address many policy challenges presented by the information age starting with Y2K. While experts disagree on the magnitude of the impact of the Y2K problem, some are predicting a severe global economic downturn due to losses of productivity worldwide. Although Minnesota has undertaken an effort to repair state agencies' computer systems, we must do more to prepare for this problem statewide. The Humphrey/Moe Administration will: Determine whether our strategic business partners and core industries, including the energy, food and financial industries, are prepared for the problem. Assure that our basic public safety systems are prepared. Assess the preparedness of our trading partners and others we rely on to keep our economy moving. Develop contingency plans to address the failures that occur due to the Y2K problem.
