Ken Pentel Response 10
Question 10: Should the Metropolitan Council be an elected body? Why or why not? If you believe they should be elected, should the seats be single district, proportional, or a mix?
Yes the Metropolitan Council should be an elected body. The
Greens support decentralized power. The Met Council controls 600
million dollars and sets the course on planning for the metropolitan
region. What we have seen is the appointments to the council used
for sprawl and not thoughtful human scale planning.
Three quarters of the council should be elected based on Proportional
Representation (PR), the other quarter should represent park, city
and county elected officials, with no more than 25 members. We
have a lot of damage to repair because of misguided planning.
