Welcome to the Minnnesota Town Hall 1996 U.S. Senate E-Debate
-------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.e-democracy.org - The only E-Debate of its kind.

Welcome to the 1996 Senate E-Debate at Minnesota Town Hall.
I'm Diane Gibson from the League of Women Voters of Minnesota
and I will be co-moderating the E-Debates with Scott Aikens, the
Minnesota Town Hall coordinator.

Today you will receive the introductions from the candidates, in which we
asked them to tell us why they want to represent the citizens of Minnesota
in the United States Senate. Over the next week, the candidates will
respond to three debate questions. You'll receive the candidates'
response to the first question tomorrow morning and their rebuttal to their
opponents' responses the same afternoon or the next morning. The
candidates' response and rebuttal to questions two and three will occur
on Friday, October 25, and on Monday October 28, respectively.

As you know, Minnesota Town Hall is an online place for citizens
to learn about and discuss candidates and issues. During this
E-Debate week, we encourage you to participate in either an
e-mail based or web based forum to discuss the issues and the
candidates' positions with people in your community. This is
your chance to be heard and help shape the future. Complete
information on how to participate can be found at the Minnesota
Town Hall website, http://www.e-democracy.org.

Through the use of new technologies, Minnesota E-Democracy
has reached out to citizens, enabling them to increase their
participation in democracy. The League of Women Voters of Minnesota
is pleased to once again support the efforts of Minnesota E-Democracy;
our partnership has allowed the League to serve a new audience,
promoting the informed and active involvment of citizens in government.

We wish all the candidates well as the debate commences.

Diane Gibson
Director and Technology Chair
League of Women Voters of Minnesota
