As the Senate's leading reformer -- I authored, fought for and, after a
long two year fight, passed tough, sweeping gift restrictions to end
lobbyist's practice of lavishing expensive meals and fancy trips on
Members of Congress. And, as part of my efforts to make the political
process more open and accountable to people, I helped enact a rule that
now requires lobbyists to identify themselves. Finally, I have time and
again authored and cosponsored legislation to change to way that
political campaigns are financed. Unfortunately, just like with gift
restrictions, my efforts have met time and again with Republican
opposition -- from a veto by George bush to Senate filibusters -- it's an
uphill battle. Despite this opposition, I want Minnesotans to know that I
will continue to fight to change the way Washington operates. If
Minnesotans give me the honor of another term as their Senator, I will go
back to fight for passage of meaningful campaign finance reform.
